PoPo Family Restaurant

I went to lunch at Popo’s with a friend today and very disappointed in the food quality to say the least. Service was good so no reflection on the waitstaff. If you are looking for a country/southern style dining experience this is not it. Don’t claim to be a fresh scratch kitchen when it’s not that. If you have ever worked in the food industry you know what is fresh and what is not. Serving lunch size portions for dinner prices wasn’t a great start. Only a handful of people in the restaurant to begin with so it wasn’t a rush order situation. The chicken fried steak was paper thin with flavorless, colorless breading, mashed potatoes were instant at best, the gravy was leftover from breakfast with sausage in it not to mention the consistency of pudding and cold. I salted and peppered it to try to make it more palatable but it just wasn’t. This is the second time within a year we both tried this restaurant and only tried it this time because someone said it just must have been a one time thing that it was bad the first time. The manager did ask if I wanted something else but I declined and she removed it from our bill.

Flavor: A+ Service: A- Tea: B Solo dining: A Say hello to the best chicken fried steak in central Texas! It's tender, flavorful, not at all gristly, and is complemented with delicious gravy. It didn't even need salt and pepper. Someone knows what they're doing in this kitchen. The sides are pretty plain-jane but still homemade and good. I'll be back to this newfound gem.

Well…really disappointed…my family used to come here years ago. Definitely not the same unfortunately. The food used to be from scratch and seasoned perfectly. I had the catfish filet with fries and coleslaw. All I can say is… bland…so bland. Definitely does not warrant the prices they charge. It screams chain restaurant food and not to mention they were really short on staff. You could tell everyone was stressed and annoyed which showed in the customer service. Also, the water tasted like straight bleach and ruined the tea as well. I’m not sure we will come back…really disappointed.

We stopped in this morning, 11/5/23. This is a great family restaurant, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Our waitress was Deb and she was so nice and patient with our group of 7. I had the patty melt and it was as good as I’ve ever had, others has the cheese steak sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, chicken fried steak, and turkey and dressing dinner, everyone was very happy their meals. We will be back when we are in the area again
